The Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Open University (BAOU) was established by the Act No.14 of 1994 passed by the Gujarat State Legislature on 13th April, 1994, and assented to by the Governor of Gujarat on 27th July, 1994. The BAOU is the seventh Open University in the country in terms of their establishment. The University offers 80+ programmes with an enrolment of more than 8,00,000+ learners.
The headquarters of the university is located at Ahmedabad. The University has established 07 Regional Centres across Gujarat. The University has more than 270 study centers. It has jurisdiction over the whole state of Gujarat. It is open to all persons irrespective of classes, castes, creed, religion or sex.
Post-matric scholarship: The SC/ST division in Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Open University has been functioning since 2002. The main objective of this scheme is to provide the benefit of the post-matric scholarship given by the government to the scheduled caste and scheduled tribe students.
Covid Shiksha Suraksha Yojana:
Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Open University secures education of those adversely affected by Covid-19 Pandemic, with effect from August-2021 Admission Session.
Free-of-Cost education to individuals who have lost their parents to Covid-19.
Free-of-Cost education to women who have lost their breadwinner father/husband/son to Covid-19.
Refund of entire fees of students who lost their lives to Covid-19.
Providing financial support of Rs. 11,000 to the family of a student of the university who lost his/her life to Covid-19.
