Centre for Distance and Online Education (previously known as Department of Open and Distance Learning) was established in 1968 and has been a pioneer institute imparting education through the distance mode. It has been the second institute in the country to adopt the non-formal mode of imparting education. This was the first centre in India to introduce a regional language as medium of instruction and examination. Presently, the Centre is managing 34 multi-faculty programmes. Student enrolment in the centre has been as high as twelve to fifteen thousand in previous years. The centre is proud of its students who have always performed exceptionally well in the University examinations, lending credence to the fact that the distance mode of learning is second to none.
The qualified students get several distinction awards, including National distinction Scholarships. Fee benefits are available to students in the Scheduled Caste Category whose parents earn less than 2 lacs annually and students in the Backward Classes whose parents earn less than 1 lac annually.
