Following NID’s core pedagogical approach of ‘learning by doing’, the discipline supports students to develop their skills and conceptual thinking in material and its technology. The discipline creates opportunities to enquire, study, experience and conceptualise meaningful products, services and design strategies for various sectors. Through their engagement in social development, entrepreneurial ventures, industrial production, material research and other domains, graduates of the discipline have been able to enhance user-experience, address social and environmental issues and encourage inclusive growth for diverse collaborators.

The curriculum of the B.Des. program in Ceramic and Glass Design covers a wide range of subjects related to ceramics, glass, design principles, material exploration, techniques, and production processes. Students learn about the properties and characteristics of ceramics and glass, as well as their potential applications in various design contexts.

The program emphasizes both theoretical knowledge and practical application. Students engage in design studios, workshops, and hands-on projects where they experiment with different techniques, explore new forms, and develop their design concepts. They learn to combine traditional craftsmanship with contemporary design approaches to create unique and functional ceramic and glass objects.

Additionally, the program often incorporates industry exposure and collaborations, providing students with opportunities to work with professionals and gain real-world experience in the field. Students may have access to specialized facilities and equipment for ceramic and glass work, such as kilns, furnaces, and glassblowing tools.

Upon graduation, B.Des. graduates in Ceramic and Glass Design can pursue diverse career paths. They may work as ceramic and glass designers, studio artists, artisans, design consultants, or educators. The B.Des. degree equips graduates with design skills, technical expertise, and a deep understanding of ceramic and glass materials, enabling them to contribute to the artistic and functional aspects of these mediums in various industries.
