The B.Des. in Exhibition Design discipline at NID takes a multi-disciplinary approach to communicate information and ideas across a range of environments. It focuses on storytelling through environmental experiences that inform, entertain and inspire. The discipline considers exhibition from the perspectives of communication, design and fabrication by developing skills in spatial planning, image-making, narrative-building, lighting design, interactive media technology and scenography. In addition, it relies on a working knowledge of structures, typography, visual design fundamentals, combined with an understanding of human factors. In short, it harnesses physical space and visual storytelling to create environments that communicate.

Exhibition designers work across a wide variety of areas including museums, galleries, trade shows, thematic interior-design environments and scenography for festivities, cultural and theatrical events, environmental branding and signage systems, experience design and virtual museums/environments. They also contribute to public spaces by designing experiences that are not only sensorial but also emotional.

A Bachelor of Design (B.Des.) in Exhibition Design is an undergraduate degree program that focuses on developing creative and technical skills in designing immersive and interactive exhibition spaces. The program aims to train individuals to create engaging environments that effectively communicate information, showcase artifacts, and provide memorable experiences for visitors.

The curriculum of the B.Des. program in Exhibition Design covers a wide range of subjects related to spatial design, visual communication, storytelling, exhibition planning, lighting design, material exploration, and digital technologies. Students learn to conceptualize, plan, and design exhibitions for various contexts such as museums, galleries, trade shows, and cultural events.

The program emphasizes both theoretical knowledge and practical application. Students engage in design studios, workshops, and hands-on projects where they develop their design skills, create 3D models, prototype exhibition elements, and apply visual communication techniques. They learn to consider factors such as visitor flow, accessibility, aesthetics, and thematic coherence in their designs.

Additionally, the program often incorporates industry exposure and collaborations, providing students with opportunities to work on real exhibition projects and learn from professionals in the field. Students may have access to design software, fabrication tools, and exhibition spaces to realize their designs.

Upon graduation, B.Des. graduates in Exhibition Design can pursue diverse career paths. They may work as exhibition designers, spatial designers, museum curators, experience designers, or event organizers. The B.Des. degree equips graduates with creative design skills, critical thinking abilities, and a deep understanding of exhibition design principles, enabling them to create immersive and impactful exhibition spaces that captivate and engage audiences.
