The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), established by an Act of Parliament in 1985, has continuously striven to build an inclusive knowledge society through inclusive education. It has tried to increase the Gross Enrollment Ratio (GER) by offering high-quality teaching through the Open and Distance Learning (ODL) mode.
The University began by offering two academic programs in 1987, i.e., Diploma in Management and Diploma in Distance Education, with a strength of 4,528 students.
Today, it serves the educational aspirations of over 3 million students in India and other countries through 21 Schools of Studies and a network of 67 Regional Centre’s, around 2,000 Learner Support Centre’s and 20 overseas institutions. The University offers about 200 certificate, diploma, degree and doctoral program, with a strength of nearly 250 faculty members and 230 academic staff at the headquarters and regional center’s and over 35,000 academic counsellors from conventional institutions of higher learning, professional organizations, and industry among others.

The amount for maintenance:
Professional Graduate Courses: Rs. 2500 p.m (for 10 months)
Professional PG Courses: Rs. 3000 p.m
Amount for Books & stationery:
Professional Graduate Courses: Rs. 6,000 p.a
Professional PG Courses: Rs. 10,000 p.a
For whom: Students covered under Persons with Disabilities (Equal Opportunity, Protection of Rights
and Full Participation) Act, 1995 and the National Trust for the Welfare of Persons with Autism, Cerebral
Palsy, Mental Retardation and Multiple Disabilities Act, 1999.
Note: 30% reserved for girls transferable to male candidates in case of non availability of girl
applicants
- Scholarship scheme under ‘Trust Fund’ Under this scheme, 1000 scholarships (amounting Rs.50,000/-per year) are awarded to eligible students with disabilities for degree and post graduate level professional and technical courses from recognized institutions in India.
- 30% of these scholarships are reserved for girl students.
- The yearly income of the beneficiary / parent or guardian should not be more than Rs. 3 lakh from all sources.
- Eligible students can apply any time in academic year for scholarship under this scheme. Scholarships are awarded on quarterly basis for the applications received in the preceding quarter
